Drake was loved by all and was the best boy ever. He came from southern Mississippi with a fine lineage of Labrador Retrievers. He was the cutest, chubby, black puppy I’d ever seen. He was lovingly bought by our son to be trained as a duck dog. It was apparent very soon that he was not the type of dog that loved the loud noises of a shotgun. He quickly became what he was meant to be……a member of our family.
Drake was the most docile, smart, loving, kind, and happy dog I have ever known. In 11 years, I heard him growl one time and that was when he was woken from a deep sleep and thought someone he didn’t know was coming in the house late at night. Drake, as a young dog, had an obsession for socks and tennis balls. All throughout his life he couldn’t stand a squeaker to be left in a toy. It would be demolished and the squeaker removed with stuffing all over the house. He loved Milk Bones, vanilla crème cookies, and cheese.
Drake, above all, was a comforter and was always by my side.
When Drake was about 6 years old, his sister, Nova Jean, came to live with us. He was so patient and kind with her as she gave him fits wanting to play. I really believe she cut her teeth on him as much as she gnawed.
I will forever be listening to hear his tail tapping, his toenails on the floor, his deep breathing at night, and his excitement when we arrived home.
“Drake, we loved you for your whole life & we’ll miss you for the rest of ours.”
